Do not lift the back of the knife.

Avoid the tendency to lift the back of the knife up as it gets     closer to your body changing the angle of cutting. An angle greater than 30 degrees (to 90) leaves less edge to slice the material.

Poor angle produces a ragged edge.

The blade no longer slices through but pulls and snags.

This rough cut has separated fiber in the backing and      produced raveling.
